I've noticed there tends to be an aversion to disagreements in today's culture. Not that people don't argue just that as a polite society we are afraid to disagree or we might appear rude. Even when we strongly believe something, many times we will just be quiet or talk about it only among people who think like we do. I'm not saying I'm super outspoken. Put me in a group that thinks totally differently then I do and I just want to be quiet. I don't like to ruffle feathers but....I think that's wrong. Some of the people in my life that have made me think the most are those that don't just nod their head and agree with me. Of course I try my best to prove those people wrong :) but a good discussion does two things. It either opens you up to the possibility that you need to rethink things or it strengthens your belief.
Where I have noticed this most is with Christians. The world seems to have no problem telling us what it thinks. It's in all the headlines. But if we speak up we are either labeled as insignificant or haters. Well, that makes me mad. I have just as much right (we are still in America) to believe what I want as anyone else. I don't want to be silenced. What I believe matters. It is eternal. Especially when I am talking to another believer. So if you don't agree with me....good!!!!! we might actually have an interesting conversation.
AMEN! I do agree with you and I'm not just saying that! :)
