A year in comparison
Last year at this time we were in the PICU at our local hospital after (our then foster son) Daniel's lungs shut down and he started turning blue. We were told we probably made it by about 5 minutes. That is pretty scary considering I drove to the hospital... The second time it happened we called an ambulance. We came home from that first event with heart/lung and GI meds plus 24/hr oxygen.
The second event came in January. This time we were in the hospital for 4 weeks and came home with a G-tube/ Nissen plus upped the lung meds. And although we had since found out that Daniel would be our son I must admit I was too scared to buy him things thinking he might not make it.
March brought his heart surgery. A success. As spring and summer came the oxygen was no longer needed. He was weaned off the heart and GI meds and is currently being weaned off the lung meds. Two days ago we were surprised when we went to have Daniel's g-tube changed and they removed it instead. So we are down to one med that he will be off of this spring.
Last winter we basically hunkered down and mostly locked ourselves in to protect Daniel's lungs. Hand sanitizer was in every room and if anyone was sick Daniel and I locked ourselves up in my room. It was a long, hard, winter. It was totally worth it but hard nonetheless. So this year..
Daniel will be home with us for Thanksgiving...we will eat as a family and now that God had so amazingly healed Daniel we have moved forward with our adoption of Judah Ray Duval.
What a difference a year makes. We are so thankful and I have some more wonderful news to post but I will wait until another day. May God bless you as richly as He has blessed our family. Truly our cup runneth over.
